Jax's Sanctuary Friends

Welcome to F.A.B.R Sanctuary! While many of our dogs are in rehabilitation or are non-adoptable, we do have some wonderful pups eager to find their forever homes. Before reaching out about any adoptable dogs, we kindly ask that you thoroughly read each dog's bio. This helps ensure that the dog is a good match for your home environment, lifestyle, and experience with dogs. We recognize that our dogs require specific homes with varying levels of owner experience. Our top priority is to place each sanctuary dog with the right owner and a nurturing home life. Thank you for considering giving a dog in need a loving home!

What you should know about Cedar:

Introducing Cedar, a resilient and loving pup with a heart full of potential! Coming from a challenging past, Cedar is looking for her forever home—a quiet sanctuary where she can feel safe and secure. She thrives in a calm environment with a strong, confident leader who can help her rebuild her trust in the world.

Cedar does exceptionally well with women and is learning to open up to men, although she’s selective and needs more time and patience to form bonds. It's important to note that older men can be a trigger for her, so her ideal home would be free of older male guests. Cedar is working hard on her journey to confidence and is eager to learn, making her a fantastic candidate for training.

This clever girl responds well to guidance and thrives when surrounded by gentle and patient people. Cedar’s ideal home is one that’s serene, where she can truly relax and express her playful, loving nature without feeling overwhelmed. She’s a true character who will make you laugh, and her cuddly disposition is sure to warm your heart.

Because of her past experiences, Cedar would do best in a household with limited guests, and it's crucial to have a plan in place for managing visits, particularly with male visitors. Consistent, gentle handling is a must to help her continue on her path to healing.

If you're an experienced dog handler looking to provide Cedar with the safe, loving home she deserves, you’ll be rewarded with a loyal and affectionate companion. Take a chance on this sweet girl, and together you can create a beautiful future filled with love and laughter!

Cedar did live in a foster home for a couple of months and this is what they had to say about her:

From Cedars Foster: "We've had Cedar as a foster now for more than a couple of months. She's been such a good dog! This was our first experience fostering. It's been a time of laughter because we've watched her play more like a little puppy than her actual age. Throwing Herself on the grass and literally doing grass angels all 4 paws in the air. Oh, and this is her most relaxed state is on her back sleeping. It's so funny to see a dog do. She's accompanied me on many walks and although never really long ones, she Loves to stop and smell the roses! We had our routine down, out for a pee first thing as my boyfriend was up
for work at 530am. Then, I'd go put a pair of pants and she knew it was time for a walk. She'd wait by the front door for her collar and leash. And just sit patiently. And I mean patient. I've never seen such a patient dog! We would come home after our walk, hopefully she pooped, to make room for her breakfast. And most of the time she did like clockwork! So, I'd come home and it was time to multi-task. Get her breakfast and mine, including my coffee! Her kibble was mixed with a tbsp of coconut oil melted on it. I'd tell her it was going to be so yummy, and she’d come as soon as it was on her mat with fresh water. If she didn't eat it all, I'd have to stir it up a bit so it wasn't all chunked up together. Her day comprised or sleeping under my work desk at home while I work. I knew it was time to go out when she’d wake up. When my boyfriend came home, she was so happy to see him, she tried to jump up as though she was giving him a big hug. This dog has so much love to give. She loves to cuddle!! She slept with us. She had a bed so when things got too hot, she went to the floor or on her bed. A fresh water bowl not far from her at all times. Supper time, so time for me to be done work. She came first. I mixed her kibble with a beef bouillon mix from the pet store with ¼ cup of warm water and stirred it all up. She loves that! After supper, there was another walk for her alone with me or with both my boyfriend and I. But around 7 or 8pm, she'd start to act funny. Yes, she was ready for bed already. It forced us to relax earlier than usual. Have our cuddle time with her. And this dog can sleep! She loves her sleep. She was just the right speed of energy! When she was trying to get our attention, it was when we'd be tired, she'd get her loudest toy and play with it! Yes, just like a child. She is truly a remarkable dog. She has a big heart and recognizes the same in others. She loves to wake up my teenage son in the morning for school and when there is no school. I think mostly she wanted to see what was on his bed as he constantly leaves his dishes there from snacks. I can't say enough good things about Cedar. She was my first foster; she would have been my first dog. She deserves more than we can offer her now with my son having sleep issues which will turn into health issues if not properly addressed and I don't want anything but love to be felt for this dog. She deserves the world.  "

Behavior Rehabilitation - Residents

Odin

Age: 4 years old

Breed: Shar-pei/Bully Mix

Reason for behavior rehabilitation: Has some stranger issues and reactivity with dogs. Odin has come a long way in the last few months, he is no longer as reactive to humans and is no longer reactive at the sight of dogs. He does take time to warm up to new people, but is vocal at warnings when uncomfortable. Which is a great thing as Odin is very good at giving verbal warnings without biting.

Reason for intake: Odin was an owner surrender.

Capone

Age: 5 years old

Breed: Bulldog Mix

Reason for behavior rehabilitation: Has some stranger issues and reactivity with dogs. Capone has some issues with his reactivity towards strangers and some dogs. Most dogs he's neutral with and could care less about their presence. But certain dogs he gets severely reactive with. Humans with high energy or humans who are not confident around dogs, Capone senses that and can be quite reactive towards those people. We are working on what his triggers are and teaching him how to manage his reactions and thought process. Capone does not warn before biting vocally, but his body language says it all.

Reason for intake: Capone was a PAWS transfer.
